Students Rate Professors: Pathetic

I really enjoyed this article at the BBC site.

Students Bemoan 'Unhip' Lecturers

"They try to be funny - I'm not at clown college."

"Every aspect of their measly little lives irritates me."

A delicious little read for a Friday afternoon.

Spring Semester 2006 Begins

Back from my journey. The weather here is beautiful--sunny and almost up to 60 F.

Classes started at Emory on Wednesday, the 18th. I'm teaching two classes this semester: a freshman seminar, "Introduction to East Asian Studies" and "Literary and Visual Culture in Japan." I'm looking forward to both of them very much; it looks like both classes are full of very interesting students.

I'm keeping separate blogs for both these classes, so take a look and watch how they develop. I'll add links on the right to let you navigate there. In the meantime, follow the links in the text of this post.

It's nice to be back.

Journey West

Weblog Yahantei is taking flight again for another two weeks or so, following the sun as it races across the world. I'm traveling to some other islands, ones that float above a different cold and glittering sea. However, even there, behind the snowy clouds the stars will be the same.

I'll try to check in now and then. In the meantime, watch the moon--when it starts to wane I'll head for home.

And while you're waiting for me, listen to the legendary story of Mornington Crescent.
